Last Saturday, during the middle of the kitchen tiling project, I put the toads on craigslist. It tool only a few hours for someone to show up at my door to take the toads away. We'd had the toads for three years. It was a little sad to see them go, but with everything that's going on around here and the fact that the kids don't notice them anymore, I decided I was done taking care of them. I will admit that Y-Gal, Chubby, and Shrimpy (and Jerry, rest his soul) were good toads. They were very fun to look at and made a nice chirping noise from time to time. They were easy to care for, but when the kids don't care anymore, the motivation is just not there.
The lady that came to pick them up already had two toads and her kids were all excited to get more. She showed up with her four kids, ages 11 - 2, and they were all excited about the toads. The kids learned the toads names and were really happy. That made me feel really good about it.
And the only kid that knew we gave the toads away was Reid. The others haven't even noticed that the toads are gone... that's how much they ignored them.
So. We are down to one kitty for a pet. That's a good feeling. And it's a kitty who goes potty outside. :) Not much easier than that!
